Using Windows Explorer as an FTP Connection Tool
|
Starting with Windows 2000, the Windows Explorer can function as an FTP tool. Using the Windows Explorer as an FTP tool is extremely convenient since it is already installed and the interface is known by most users.

Start by choosing the Map Network Drive option from the Tools pulldown menu:

Then choose the option Create a shortcut to a web folder or FTP site.

In the Add Network Place Wizard indicate the FTP name of your web site in the format indicated:

Indicate your user name for your web account:

Next, select the name that your site will be known as within the Windows Explorer.

Copying between Computers
You will be able to copy from your local drives to the FTP site just as you normally copy between subdirectories or drives. Highlight the files that you wish to copy and then choose the Edit/Copy command. Change to the correct subdirectory of the FTP site and choose the Edit/Paste command.
To copy from the FTP site to your local computer, highlight the desired files and then right-click on one of the files and pick the Copy to Folder option. Next identify the local folder to which you wish to copy the files.
