Account Configuration
|
To get started, you'll need an explanation of the basic process of getting your Web site up and running. We'll assume that you have just created a brand new Web hosting account and are ready to make your Web presence known.
Once the account is requested, you'll need to wait for the account to be set up completely on the server. We will email you when this process is complete and give you more specific details about your account. Initially, you will be able to access the site by its IP address.
You will be able to begin to upload your files, via your IP address, using an FTP client. Microsoft® FrontPage® customers can also upload using the FrontPage Explorer.
Note, however, that the account will, temporarily, only be accessible via the IP address, not your domain name (Web address). The domain name can take a few days to function due to the fact that the domain name and its associated server must be propagated across the entire Internet. This can take from 3-5 days for new domains, and 4-7 days for domain name transfers. To test the domain name, simply type it into a Web browser and see if your new account comes up.
Once the domain name is functioning correctly, you may want to visit the Control Panel for your account. This is where you can configure your account settings such as e-mail, statistics, secure server access, CGI scripts and so forth. To reach the Control Panel, type http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/monstercontrols/. Your Control Panel contains everything you should need to tweak all of your account options.
